What is Live Location Tracking?

WhatsApp recently released a new update for its beta version users. It is “Live Location Tracking” which allow users to share their real-time location with friends. This feature is available in WhatsApp beta versions (Android version 2.16.399+) and (iOS version 2.17.3.28). Live Location Tracking is disabled by default but a user can enable it from the app’s settings menu. It is for your safety so it won’t publish your live location without your wish.

As per now, this feature is for “Group” friends only but a reliable source told us that it will also be available for all very soon. As shown in the screen-shot (above) user can select the time period they want to share his/her location with their friends using “Live Location Tracking”. A user can enable this feature for 1 minute, 2 minutes, 5 minutes or or unlimited time period.

More interesting features:

Live Location Tracking is not the only amazing update for WhatsApp beta users. There are a whole lot of amazing and interesting features are on test mode. Here are some amazing features list below:

  • In December 2016, WhatsApp added a feature to revoke and edit the sent messages (Only unread messages) in its beta version testing (Only for iOS 2.17.1.869). This feature will in order to avoid potential embarrassment sometimes.
  • WhatsApp has also rolled out its two-step verification (With email) feature for their Android beta users.
  • For Windows user the new update of WhatsApp beta (version 2.17.44+) replying to status published by your friend.
  • WhatsApp beta for Android 2.17.44: new video call shortcut (like in iOS) and the attached option (DISABLED BY DEFAULT)
  • Some new and cool emojis and video icon (along with the phone icon on the top) are added in the new beta update for android.

There is no official statement from WhatsApp about when they will update these features for their stable (normal) users. But a close source told us that the work is in final stages and new updates will come-out on or before July 2017. But one thing is for sure that features like Live Location Tracking will be very helpful for all.
